Went to check this trail out today for the first time hoping to find a new place closer to where I live to skate ski. There is little that additional grooming can do to improve conditions to an all good ski category without more snowfall. The screening this evening will let more air out of the new snow and I would expect very good trail conditions for your chilly Saturday ski. Groomer does a nice job! Skate deck was nice and soft with good edging. We skied from the north end trailhead and everything has been re-groomed since Wednesday. We’ll stay with it! GANC received fresh tracks this morning while the sun was rising over the St. Louis River (thanks to groomer Erik Blow). Conditions good (not great). We are down to one machine to pack and groom and it is being worked continuously. Snow and grooming were perfect for classic this afternoon. Had mechanical issues with gator. Skate lanes are also excellent, firmed up since yesterday. Skied D,G down classic heaven then B in beautiful full sunshine. The trails are in need of a fresh set of tracks. Looked to be 2-3 inches of fresh snow. At lunch time, took advantage of the high humidity and conditioned the snow on Sukkerbusk and reset the tracks. Don’t forget to ski the open middle field up out Birkie/Bitch hill. V40 swix kick worked great. The skate deck and classic tracks equally nice. Arriving at dawn, Joanie and I classic skied the yellow and brown loops. But overall I thought the trails seemed good and it was a great first time out! Grooming happening right after I started so it should be great when it has firmed up! Trails may be a bit soft yet before they have a chance to set up overnight. We were in skier heaven! Groomer was starting to go out about 2 pm. Skate deck seemed a tad soft, should improve with age and use. Tracks are a little icy but good glide. Bring your best skis! Track looked good, a little shallow in some spots. Birch, Oak, Pine, Portage, Balsam, Maple, Linden, Peepsock and Core Loops are all tilled and tracks have been reset. Could use more snow, still thin under the conifers, track was set on A and B and C is packed. Try green kick wax (V20). Tracks still set in places where you'd expect them to be and obliterated in places you'd expect them to be destroyed. Skate deck was solid when descending hills. Folks skating in the afternoon reported heavenly conditions. No rocks or lack of coverage. Enjoy, and thank you for caring for such a special place! The trail is in great shape, freshly groomed. Both were well groomed and firm enough in the middle to stay on top of your glide, albeit soft enough to make hard work of the hills. All Rights Reserved. Better scenery on the south. The trails were meant to be groomed tonight but equipment issues stopped our efforts. Turned out fair. Very few skiers between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm. A few downhills are a bit washed out from snow plowing, but not too bad. No classic tracks yet. I stuck with the skate deck on the main trail and enjoyed 100% trail coverage with minimal debris. All had been groomed for snowshoeing recently, and there was 1-2 inches of new snow on top. Excellent coverage. It was really nice to have fresh, non-icy tracks. Enjoy! Started from the golf club house at 11:30, went up to the purple and orange loops, then returned on the west side of the green golf course loop. Enjoyed the couple inches of fresh snow from a few days ago. I hopped in and out of the classic tracks for downhills and some double poling and they were fabulous throughout. Our first time at the power packed trail system. The north side, as usual, is in a lot worse shape. Open areas were basically leaf free and made for an effortless stride. From Roger Clark groomer: Stoney Ridge has been groomed and trackset. Great to see all the MS and HS racers. Very nice texture for grooming! The crew was off the main trails by 3:30am. A light dusting of snow provided a little grip. Tracks were great. Get out there today! The parking lot was clearing out when I started at 4:45. We did the 8kish loop to Grimms Farm and back. Much improved from Saturday, and should hold until the next snowfall midweek. I hope to groom Tower end tomorrow. Started to snow lightly as I finished my ski. It seems this part of the island gets less snow or more wind, not sure which. New classic track was set on Rajala. Trained in Craig Rittler and he got his grooming card, say hi to him on the trail. Skied all of the trails on the south side of the river. The 2.2 mile snowshoe/fatbike trail has been groomed and is firm and fun too. Blue loop fairly firm, with loose snow on top, great skiing! Excellent conditions. Track was the hardest it's been this season, and was deep and crisp throughout. This year that plan has worked out very well and has given us mostly great skiing even with the intermittent snows. I will plan on grooming Sunday if we get new snow. We didn't groomed the skate decks for the first time in quite a while but the texture is holding out nicely and the surface is skiing phenomenal. The occasional rock was seen but 99% good and I had no worry with good skis. Nearly 90% of trails at Navarino are packed and tracked. Some difficulty at times holding a good glide due to skate ruts. Had a great time with freshly groomed trails. Skiers were reporting that the trail is firm and great shape with just a few “dirty” spots. A great ski! Parked in the Cty 81/Clayton Ave parking lot and skied the Wetland and Pine loops. Nevertheless, skating was fine. It was still skiable. Very enjoyable. Tracks were set up firm and fast. Weather is such that many inches of snow will last for weeks but people just aren’t going to stop stomping. The trails got rolled last night and again this morning before the deck was set and new classic tracks laid down. Classic tracks looked good, too. Although recently groomed, trails were a mixed bag this afternoon. The skate deck has been groomed with very little use and looked good. Ham lake and highlands loop yesterday was also fantastic. Violet Special kick wax provided great grip on the freshly groomed hills. There were certain parts on the 5k course where the tracks were a little dirty with leaves and dirt. Robert is out again now grooming the skate loops. Skied the Pike Lake classic trail. Northern Lights was not as good, but nice to have fresh snow. Overnight imagine it will set up and be great for this week. Snow was compliant later in the day with warmer temps. Skied all trails today. It should be great again tomorrow. It should be big fun, but a bit crowded. After fresh 3-4" of snow, we arrived at 11am to see groomer out setting tracks. The skate decks were well groomed with decent cover in spite of the shallow snow - No rocks, just a few leaves. Lights were on for the downhill slopes, including in the back bowl, and there was a floodlight set up that lit up the entire south section by the zoo, so skiing after dark was no problem, at least not up until 7p.m. Skate deck great conditions. It was a perfect winter afternoon. It was supposedly 23 degrees and really grey. Trail had been groomed and tracked earlier in the morning. The first surprise was just how good the skiing was. We received about 6 inches of new snow on Thursday. There was no grooming expected and none found. Thanks to the groomers at Baker. Classic track on the 6K is very good. There was a lot of foot traffic on this trail and even signs of a fat tire bike track. Instead of trying to keep up with the kids I skied lots of small loops from the 4k to the 6k cutoff to try and see each of the team members out skiing and then ended the day by skiing the whole 10k. Pipeline East: "Excellent" groomed for skate and classic. Just a few dirty spots remain. No suggested directional arrows on south side. Skied the 30K Loppet race course. Ski trails are groomed and great! Despite the overcast and my 6:30 start well after sunset, I had little problem skiing the unlit portion of the trail. I did the 20k skate race/tour and the beautiful hilly course. Throughout the system trails are looking and skiing great. No classic track set on purple trail for some reason. 10 inches can go pretty far with a trail system. Skate deck was groomed this morning and it needed it. Good coverage and was groomed at one point but now has been windswept and left large segments without classic tracks. Very pleased to how it came back to life! Picked a warmer wax which gave some glide which was an improvement from yesterday. Not great. Lost Lake and Spruce trails had just been tracked the day before and were amazing. The trails on Isles were covered in snow this morning (no grooming visible for skate or classic). Enjoyed the rolling hills. Skied N Wirth today. It is very good to excellent for classical skiing except the Luge loop which is still a little rough. We groomed the skate lane on all trails this morning. A group of "hikers" walked the red trail and did significant "damage" to the groomed, untracked surface. When I got home I found very little of the brand new kick wax was still on them. I don't have to tell you: windblown snow is some pretty abrasive stuff. But after several rounds of snow this winter, the park was finally able to groom and set track for the first time this winter season yesterday. The coating of snow from Sunday is being skied-in nicely and covers the base. It's great to see so much snow at Snowflake and great grooming. Track should set up well overnight making for very good conditions on Friday. There will be some drifting on the open areas and along the ridges. Classic tracks were in good shape, although almost indiscernible in some places from the new snow. Cross it and you're back on the southern loop of the trail. Weight, maybe that was just me. It was a little icy, and some areas had a quite a few leaves in the tracks but otherwise it was in nice condition. The Picnic ridge was skier tracked but outside pole plants were soft. Blufftop loop is in good condition, prairie loop is in poor to fair condition due to blowing snow causing drifts and revealing grass stubble in places. Its a multi-use trail, so some human steps in tracks, but the real roughness is from many, many deer tracks. Thank you expert groomers! Great conditions with good edging and not icy. Thanks again. A skating lane and classic track was set from Menomonie to Downsville. But overall great skiing. It had been packed and groomed for classic. 2-3 inches of new snow; 8 inch trail, 12 inches off the trail. Cold night didn’t stop the urge to hit the trails this evening! Good skiing. Snow condition is good, only a handful of bare spots to be careful of. Groomers plan to be out early tomorrow morning (6ish) to do the finishing passes and set tracks. I skied the Ishnala trail, Pioneer and Fern Dell trail. A cinder block in the middle of the tracks. Lengthy single-track trails (classic only) like the ones in this park are rare in southern Wisconsin, and the trails here need more snow than average to enable their staff to groom and track a quality trail surface. However, at mid-day the temperature rose enough to make the snow really sticky. It made the trail longer. Freshly groomed. Happy skiing. Skate deck is in great shape. Enjoyed the new Lollipop Trail that was in pristine conditions. Overall, it is still fairly good skiing. Beautiful trails with great snow coverage. A few bare spots persist but generally good ski conditions. Get out an enjoy! Light skier traffic once out on the 20 k ( bushwhacker ridge ) and the alps hadn’t even been visited at all. Feb. 4,  3 - 5:30 PM; and Fri. Feb. 5,  2 -5  PM. Skied Lake, Eagle, Northern Lights and Valley to get back to my car. Still worth coming out for a ski at Hiram but don't use your best skis yet. We are starting to see dirty snow in spots. 3-5” of new powder thru noon today. It doesn't appear there was any grooming this morning. Best conditions of the year. Classic tracks were re-set on all loops and are also in excellent condition. Classic track on the 8K a bit shallower and less skied-in, but nicely laid and “good”. Skate deck is packed, but no hard packed or icy spot issues (except for the "S" downhill on King). Skated the outer loop all the way around. Classic tracks were a couple of days old, but solid with a light dusting on the tracks. Advance rental reservations available online.  High school races are scheduled at Hyland for: Tues. Feb. 2,  2-5:00 PM; Wed. Feb. 3,  12:30 - 4 PM; Thurs. Were it not for the markers that the groomer uses, I would have had a hard time staying on trail. Irondale trails have great coverage and respite from the wind. The trail was in pristine condition with excellent classic tracks and skating trail was freshly groomed. Thanks to the groomer as the icy downhills were dangerous before grooming. The Red Cedar Trail was groomed from Menomonie 13 miles south to Hwy Y. It was rock-hard and fairly narrow up the first hill. All the skate lanes were all combed today and the skiing is excellent. Some typical washouts on some of the faster corners - but the skate deck was rock solid with good edge control. Didn’t make it out on the trails until early afternoon but wasn’t disappointed. I got out for some classic skiing right after the snow storm ended. Much firmer. Frosty humid day made for a gliding and sliding beauty day! Skied around Snelling Lake, and all of Pike Island. Started just as a light rain began. All ski trails were groomed and tracks were reset. Great hill work training for this year’s Birkie event. The track was a minor bit slow where the snow was still powdery but lovely and nice. Some foot prints but no problem, just a little annoying. Only a few trails were groomed and some were rolled. We are running the PistenBullys and the snow is full depth. It’s nice to ski on groomed trails before hikers and snowshoers completely destroy it. If you're looking for a less windy route the Hill and Woods trail using the alternate Woodside trail and lower wooded areas will be the best route to stay out of the wind. There are quite a few thin spots and some small rocks and dirt poking up in the skate lanes (I groomed them on Monday and had the knives on the ginzu down a bit too low) but the classic tracks still are firm, clean, and very good. The powder made the super steep downhills fun too! I've been skiing this year over at the Willow every few days since the Christmas Eve day snow. New fast times posted this week but a reminder it's not all about being the fastest skier, just getting out and doing it. All trails except Sally's Classic have been freshly groomed and tracked. A cold, sunny, calm morning made for excellent striding in the multiple sets of tracks. Quite a few oak leaves on the trail, but they didn't cause much trouble. All trails were groomed. The parallel path for snow-shoeing, hiking and skijouring was also in good shape - again with just a few spots of grass as well as a few avoidable patches of dirt. Enjoy the trail! The mystery runner is back with footprints in the middle of the skate deck. Only issues are the Nine Mile Creek paved path crossings which have been plowed - snow is scarce there but navigable. There was not much trail debris. That whole section was un-groomed. PE gave him a two thumbs up rating for his first time out. All other trails tracked yesterday and in good condition. Enjoy it before the footprints return. We had 1/2” new snow Saturday night, after photos were taken so that will cover it up somewhat, esp. Kudos to the groomers. Ski Trail: Skate lane was touched up this morning. The fresh groomed parts were a bit slow and soft (will probably firm up with this cold wind pretty quickly). Made several passes through the Kenilworth Channel, packing the skate deck and set classic tracks on right and left where possible. By the time I came down off the west ridge, my glasses were so fogged from the balaclava's restrictions on exhaling from my mouth that I was skiing by feel. The wide skate deck is very enjoyable with the fresh snow. While the rest of us were all snuggled in our warm places, Evolution was out laying down his first set of solo tracks and was happy to be setting them into fresh snow instead of ice. The classic track looked firm and deep. It looked groomed all the way up the Hwy 77 but we just did the Ravine Trail. The snow was a bit wet so the track was deep and compacted. Conditions on Takesson and Vahterra were too soft to track with a snowmobile on the big hills, so that will wait until next early week. Following a fine day of high school racing, tonight we regroomed all trails. Mukwonago received about 5 inches of snow yesterday! The groomers hadn’t been out yet but we were able to see the previous tracks and followed those. Much better conditions in the woods. Mount Chocorua (IPA: /ʃʌˈkɔʊˌɹwə/) is a 3,490 ft (1,060 m) mountain in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the easternmost peak of the Sandwich Range.Although the mountain is not outstanding for its elevation, it is very rugged and has excellent views of the surrounding lakes, mountains, and forests. Get out and enjoy the natural snow! Trying to keep my streak going, with 39 consecutive days of skiing so far! Trails are packed, tracked and in good condition. The classic tracks are holding up well and waiting for new snow for a reset. The result looks nice. I really got confused trying to follow the trail maps. Groomers were out tonight and renovated all the trails, there are no tracks set.  Groomers will pack, comb the skate lane and set tracks as weather permits. New snow should upgrade conditions. All in all, it is going to be a great day to get out to Columbia with the fresh snow! Upper received 3+ inches of snow yesterday and it groomed up nicely. We skied here for the first time ever and found the trails very well groomed for skate and classic skiing. Dragonfly was good overall, but some places a bit bare. Skating lanes are very good to excellent. Good coverage on most places - but some areas a little bare. Skate deck looked great, tracks just fine, just a little washed out and slow. Stay warm and safe if you venture out! Picture from today on Tall Pines. Eagle was just groomed and tracked, which was very good. Classic rails look good condition although ice patches at times. For some reason the man made hill hasn't been groomed since the snowfall and the entry to the loop is a little challenging. The rest will be groomed on Friday if its not ninety below zero. Freshly groomed, a few soft spots where surface undulations prevented full contact with the roller, and there was gravel just under the thin snow coverage on the downhill after the RR tracks and the runout from the downhill S curve leading to the loop in front of the trailhead. Joanie and I skated the purple and brown trails and strided the purple, green, and red trails, spending more than 3 hours here. The packed base is crusty, especially south side of Eagle and other sun-exposed hills. Freshly groomed today. Hoffman was groomed and tracked this morning. I met only 5 other parties of skiers in the 40 minutes I was on the trail. There are few offshoots not groomed but I am guessing 90% groomed. Headed over to bridgewood today around 4:30, hoping that the groomer had made it out yesterday or today to pack down the snow that fell Saturday night into Sunday. The multi-use trail is packed, not tracked, and was busy with folks out hiking and walking the dogs (which IS allowed on the multi-use of course). Skied all the trails. New snow improved conditions considerably, but there are still a few thin spots so recommend B/rock skis at this time. Conditions around sunset this evening were as good as they've been all season! For first time in years, all the McCarthy Beach XC Ski Trails are groomed beautifully. Considering we are behind a bit on snowfall this year, trails remain in very good to excellent condition, with about a 4-5" average base. Every trail was freshly groomed, and fresh classic tracks were set on all trails. If you have touring skis, I'd use them. Only saw two others while I was out on most of the trail, till I saw a high school team at the end, near the parking lot. Tobin Land Bridge is near complete! Full-moon on the edge of the BWCA was spectacular. Enjoy what looks to be the last couple of warm days for a while. Penokee received about 6 inches of snow yesterday. Tracks were set on the Blue, Black and Green. If you take your skis off during those and are careful, you could use your good skis without issue. Another very enjoyable experience, thank you groomers! Groomng plan: We are going to patiently wait out the wind, finish the grooming and set tracks tomorrow evening. The bluff trails are groomed and setting up nicely. A reminder if you are hiking the trail or see hikers, please be advised to stick to one side of the trail so the conditions stay favorable for all trail users. In some places the difference between the groomed skate deck and fresh snow was < 1/4”. Wind swept with powder covering the classic tracks in many areas. I did not do anything to the classic track. About one inch of new snow Sunday morning slows things down a bit but excellent skiing. Skied at 11:00 am with a friend. Nice tracking and generally good condition. I started at Hyland at 8am today and when I left at 9:30 the parking lots were really filling up. The electrical problem was minor and plan to set track tomorrow. Skied at 3:30. Skied a couple kilometers of Lone Rock trail starting from Whitetail Woods east side link. With an average of about 5 inches the trails are in the best condition of the year. The skate deck also appeared to be in excellent condition. Thin but good conditions. Went around the entire trail. We spent an hour and 15 minutes skating through beautiful woodland trails on gentle rolling terrain. So good. Skate deck was regroomed. We will hold off on additional grooming until we see what comes later this week. However I felt the overall condition was good to excellent. The multi-use trail system at the Anoka Nature Preserve was groomed today. There were a few sticks in the middle of the trail but easy to avoid. Classic tracks in the Bog are mostly good too. The PistenBully is out and we are laying classic track as well as a good comb on the skate lane. Conditions should be very good when the temperature cools. All the trails have very hard packed snow down the middle. Classic easy loop in fast and good condition with minimal leaf debris on the trail. After a little fresh snow we got this week, Lauterman trails have been packed and combed. Just a reminder that the trails are multi-use so there are walkers that use the park. My Garmin clocked the course at 32km, including two full laps of the north Wirth trails (man made + Judy loop, skipping Trail 18). Trails are in good condition with some drifting snow and currently very little debris. The trails were a little messy so the groomers went out and groomed the main trails with two sets of classic tracks. Really peaceful and beautiful forest. All loops were groomed today and very nice looking tracks were reset. Two inches of new snow was groomed and tracked late morning with nice results. Thin areas are beginning to show in several areas, the base is firm but fairly shallow so rocks on Rattlesnake and Upper trail are a possibility. Light snow was still falling as we skied, creating a winter wonderland. We even saw some coyotes on Isles running around in the moonlight. So frustrating given I was supposedly right in the wax's temperature range. We groomed about 60 k today, tomorrow we will will concentrate on classic. A fresh groom left a perfect skate deck -- flat, firm and fast with plenty of edge control. The trail was groomed and tracked; very firm and littered with debris. I was glad I chose skating. Ski trails are all in excellent shape under the drifts. Trail 18 looks prepped, but still wasn’t open. After getting about 10" snow on Thursday, we finally have great snow depth. Demographics & Enrollment Planning Department, Kathleen C. Wright (KCW) Administration Building600 SE Third Avenue. Skied the wilderness trails cedar creek and tamarack pond. We groomed all the classic only  this morning and all the combo trails - total of 90 k. We are now running the PistenBullys and the trail is skiing even better than it has been. The best ski I had all year. Great job. The skate deck looked pretty nice with the predictable downhills snowplowed (making it faster but certainly skiable). The skate lane was also refreshed Friday afternoon. There is 100% coverage on Maples, Birches, Biathlon Loop and Lighted Trail skate lanes. In the trail system the white trail is not skiable since there is some tree removal going on in the area. There are starting to be a few spots to keep an eye out for potential damage, though nothing that looks too concerning (some ice, some debris, and some areas that look like they might be rocks coming through the snow - hard to tell as I'm always skiing in the dark). It was around 34 when I was skiing. Classic tracks were re-set today and are rated excellent. Skate line firm and fast. Classic tracks are in good shape and fast. The classic tracks were washed out in many stretches of the trail and it doesn’t appear the they’ve been groomed in many days. Tracks were still good, so that was left alone. Skating lane a little soft but tracks were great and tracked all the way around. The skiing, on the other hand, was about as good as it gets for skating, in spite of heavy use. The good news is that the new snow had filled in most of the spots with exposed ice. Some sections were slightly icy, but most of it was ok. All-in-all a very satisfying ski despite the nippy cold. Thanks to the groomers. Classic tracks seemed freshly set, and hardly skied in, so slightly soft but overall wonderful! No debris was reported. Keep up the good work and get out a enjoy before it gets to cold! Fabulous skis, blue klister cushioned with extra blue and special purple swix wax. Twenty-two inches of snow for season with four to six in sheltered areas on the ground. Still a very pleasant ski. About 15k groomed for skating with some looping around. You can ski any of the trail systems down here, they’re all in excellent condition. Enough powder for controlled downhills. Tracks are washed out in a few spots. A local skier was out shoveling snow under bridges between Isles and Cedar so I stopped to help spread it and then half a dozen skiers from Great River School stopped and helped - made quick for work under one of the wide icy spots. The track set was decent and there were varying amounts of fluffy new snow where others hadn't skied yet. Thus everything has been groomed and tracked. With the wind some leaves were in the tracks and drifts obliterated the tracks in some stretches. The trails are in awesome shape! If you venture out in the cold this weekend, expect some blowing and drifting snow across the trails. I'll start with the bad. It was cold, crunchy and fast (except it was like dropping the anchor on the dirt and bark). Started on the Northwest loop to get out of the wind. Interesting to see where the timber harvest was done last year. From last week to today there are a couple more loops groomed on the south side of the property. Skied the yellow and purple loops (classic) at lunch today. Place is top notch and fresh grooming with daily snow flurries leads to great conditions. Improve conditions to an already fun trail.
